Punjab govt keen to adopt low cost Sulabh toilet technology
Date:08-AUG-2009

In a bid to streamline sanitation system in the state, Punjab government is planning to adopt low cost Sulabh toilet technology.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who visited Sulabh headquarters to get first hand experience of the technology in New Delhi on Tuesday, expressed his keen desire to provide two-pit Sulabh toilet to each and every household in the state, a Sulabh International spokesperson said.

Badal also held a meeting with Sulabh founder Bindeshwar Pathak in this regard, the spokesperson said.

The chief minister said blue prints are being prepared to construct toilet complexes in different parts of the state and announced that the government would spent Rs 150 crore for the purpose.

Badal invited the NGO to construct community toilet complexes at public places like hospitals, bus stands and schools.

In return, Pathak assured the chief minister that his organisation is ready to provide all kinds of assistance to the Punjab government.

Sulabh, an internationally acclaimed organisation in toilet movement, has already constructed around 500 public toilets across the state.
