On September 19, 2024, Sulabh International, in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development, hosted a significant event at Kaushal Bhawan as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (Cleanliness is Service) 2024 campaign. The event aimed to highlight the importance of sanitation and waste management while actively engaging student volunteers from the Sulabh Sanitation Club, representing various Delhi colleges.
The day commenced with competitive activities, where students showcased their creativity through projects focused on “Wealth out of Waste” and face painting on the theme of Swachhata (cleanliness). These activities served as platforms to encourage innovative approaches to managing waste and promoting hygiene.
Distinguished guests, including the Hon’ble Minister Shri Jayant Chaudhary from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, esteemed officials from the Ministry, and the President of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, Mr Kumar Dilip, attended the event. They visited the photo gallery and the student stalls, where various projects related to sanitation and sustainability were displayed.
A special newsletter edition, “Swachhata Hi Seva,” published by IIHH-EIACP, was released by the Honourable Minister, along with other distinguished guests and Mr Kumar Dilip. In her welcome address, Smt Hena Usman, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development, emphasized the need to adopt cleanliness as part of daily life and encouraged the audience to take active responsibility for maintaining hygiene and sanitation.
In his address to the audience, Sulabh’s President, Mr Kumar Dilip, said, “It is a great honor for us to join hands with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in taking this campaign to people across the country. We are also proud to partner with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, with which we collaborate in the Clean Himalayas Campaign: Sulabh Swachhata – Parvaton ki Ore. Under the ongoing campaign, Sulabh International has launched advocacy and awareness initiatives in 260 locations across the country, including 25 States and 5 Union Territories, leveraging our extensive knowledge base, audio-visual tools, and direct interaction with targeted beneficiaries. For over five decades, Sulabh has been at the forefront of the sanitation and hygiene movement in India. Our synergy with the Government of India aligns seamlessly with our ongoing work and values.”
The highlight of the event was the prize distribution ceremony, where winners of the Swachhata contest were recognized for their outstanding contributions to promoting cleanliness.
A memorable moment was the administration of the Swachhata Pledge by a member of the Sulabh Sanitation Club, inspiring all attendees to commit to cleanliness. The event also featured a humorous poetry session and a short play performed by Delhi University students, both focused on the theme of Swachhata, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
The program concluded with a heartfelt poem on cleanliness, presented by a student, followed by a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and guests for their support in making the event a success. The event ended with the National Anthem, symbolizing a collective commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable India.
