On May 28, 2024, Menstrual Hygiene Day, Sulabh International proudly inaugurated the Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Knowledge Hub at the Sulabh campus. This dedicated space is designed to foster education, research, and advocacy on menstrual hygiene management.
The inauguration was part of a broader celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day, underscoring the importance of breaking the silence around menstruation. The MHM Knowledge Hub aims to provide sustainable solutions and empower women and girls across India by creating platforms for education and awareness.
The Hub was officially launched by His Excellency, Ambassador Demeke A. Ambulo, the Ethiopian Ambassador to India. This milestone marks a significant advancement in our mission to break the silence around menstruation and equip everyone with the necessary knowledge and resources.
Kumar Dilip, President of Sulabh International, emphasized the global reach of Sulabh’s initiatives: “Sulabh has visitors from all over the world on a daily basis, many of whom are students. We see the MHM Knowledge Hub as an effort to raise awareness and engage men and boys in breaking the taboo around periods. This will complement our MHM-based livelihood programs across the country.”
The event brought together diverse groups of women from various programs, fostering shared learning and engagement.
In 2023, Sulabh had released a landmark report covering 14 aspirational districts and seven states in India. The report analyzes how women in various remote, isolated, and marginalized communities fare in terms of menstrual wellbeing, needs, and perceptions. Eleven of these were aspirational districts identified under Niti Aayog’s Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP), with three additional districts added due to their specific vulnerabilities. The project period spanned from February 2022 to April 2023.
By establishing the MHM Knowledge Hub and continuing our research and advocacy efforts, Sulabh International is committed to empowering women and breaking the silence around menstruation.
